Sonos 27.1: What's New, Release Date, and How to Update
# Sonos 27.1: What's New, Release Date, and How to Update
Sonos 27.1 is rolling out now — the first reports landed around October 6, 2026, when Sonos staff posted "Sonos 27.1 Is Here" on the official community forum, with TechRadar covering the release on October 7. Here's everything confirmed so far, plus exactly how to get the update on your phone.
## What's actually new
Two changes, both verified. That's the whole changelog — Sonos hasn't documented anything else, and it's worth saying that plainly because speculation fills the gap fast.
**Your queue now survives radio and TV switching.** Previously, switching to a radio station or your TV input wiped your playback queue. Now it doesn't. Sonos announced it themselves as "Your Queue Now Survives Radio and TV," and the community reaction has been genuinely warm — this was one of the most complained-about behaviors in the app. [We dug into the queue fix in detail here](/posts/sonos-271-queue-fix).
**The virtual volume knob comes to Android.** The two-finger-twist dial that arrived on iPhone with Sonos 27 is now on Android too. Two fingers on the screen, twist like a physical knob. [Here's how to use it](/posts/sonos-271-volume-knob).
## When did it come out?
The rollout began around October 6–7, 2026. Like all app updates, it reaches people in waves — your phone might get it today, your partner's tomorrow. That's normal and not a sign anything is wrong.
## How to update on iPhone
1. Open the App Store.
2. Tap your profile picture in the top right.
3. Pull down to refresh the list.
4. Find Sonos and tap Update.
Make sure you're updating the main Sonos app — if you're on ancient hardware still running the Sonos S1 Controller, that's a separate app and 27.1 doesn't apply to you. [Not sure which you're on? Check here](/posts/sonos-271-compatibility).
## How to update on Android
1. Open Google Play.
2. Tap your profile picture → Manage apps & device.
3. Tap "Updates available."
4. Find Sonos and tap Update.
If Sonos doesn't appear in the list, pull down to refresh, or search for Sonos directly and open its store page — the update button will be there if the rollout has reached you.
## How to check you're on 27.1
Open the Sonos app, go to Settings → About, and look at the app version. A quicker real-world test: build a small queue, switch to a radio station, then switch back. If your queue is still there, you've got the fix.
## What if 27.1 isn't showing up?
Don't panic — and don't reinstall the app as a first step, since that can complicate your system setup for no benefit. The most likely explanation is simply that the rollout hasn't reached your account or region yet. [Our troubleshooting guide walks through the full checklist](/posts/sonos-271-update-not-showing), from refreshing the store cache to the rare cases that actually need attention.
## The bigger picture
Sonos 27.1 is a polish release on the Sonos 27 platform (Sonos moved to annual version numbers in 2026; base Sonos 27 arrived September 8). Small, clean, and focused — which, after the troubled 2024 redesign era, is exactly what Sonos users want to see. [Here's what's on the roadmap after 27.1](/posts/sonos-271-whats-next).
